Day 9: Absolute Value Inequalities
Day 9: Absolute Value Inequalities
Now, it's time to culminate all of our skill in inequalities utilizing absolute value.
Suppose |x - 7| > 4
First, we need to remove absolute value, as per definition, as follows
x - 7 > 4 OR x - 7 < -4 (When we split absolute value inequalities, if the original inequality is a greater than (or equal to), it will split to a disjunction. If the original inequality is a less than (or equal to), it will split to a conjunction)
Now, solve the inequality and you get:
x > 11 OR x < 3
