Course Objectives:
1. Focus on the elements and principles of design in every piece of artwork.
2. Learn the importance of keeping a sketchbook as an artist.
3. Focus on creating interesting and eye catching compositions utilizing the elements and principles of design.
4. Hanging AT LEAST one piece in both the winter and spring art shows.
Syllabus
Homework
For the first semester you will be responsible for creating one Artist Trading Card (ATC) per week – for each element and principle of design. It will be your responsibility to research that particular element or principle and create a card showing examples and listing its properties.
Elements: line, shape, value, color, space and texture
Principles: contrast, emphasis, movement, balance, scale and pattern
The second semester you will each be creating a journal with a particular theme that you choose. You will design the cover and the first two pages. After that it will be passed around to each class member, and they will be responsible for filling two pages as they view that particular theme.
