CORFO IT PROGRAM BREAKING NEWS!
Sept 2
Today the coordinators for the Corfo IT programs have a video conference nationwide to align procedures and criteria.
The video conference is at 5:30 pm today. I'll let you know what it was about as soon as I get back.
I know we should have a meeting soon to fill you in on the academic details of the program. I guess it's gonna be on Tuesday next week. The Executive Director is also working on your contracts as I'm writing, so you might hear from her as well.
NIGHTLY UPDATE
We promptly showed up at the Office where we were supposed to have the video conference. Nobody seemed to know what we were talking about.
Finally, this guy appeared out of nowhere, and knew all about the conference. We were led into a room with microphones, cameras, LCD screens...the works, only to be told "we're experiencing connection problems with our broadband server". We'll arrange a new meeting with our santiago office and will be calling you shortly.
Say what?
FRIDAY SEPT 3
I've just received a powerpoint presentation with the basics for the CORFO. There will be biometric attendance keeping.
On the first few days we'll be calling the roll as usual, along with the biometric system.
The biometric system implies that students should all "sign in" and out. We have to do whatever we can to have them coming in on time and not leaving before the time is up ( since they have to sign in and out). How is that going to work? Beats me. Maybe we'll need to have someone standing by all night. That's up to the administration really. They're doing this so we don't cheat with attendance. Something we wouldn't DREAM of doing.
The Book: MAKET LEADER PRE INTERMEDIATE
We're getting two different students, according to their TOEIC SCORE, some of them will be "pre-intermediate" and some of them will be "intermediate". Whatever the case we'll be working with a book called "Market Leader New Edition". Please check out the website http://www.market-leader.net/.
Basically the book has 8 sections:
Starting up (warm up activities]
Vocabulary
Discussion
Reading
Listening
Language Review
Skills (usually communication skills)
Case Studies (business topics to discuss in groups)
Separately, the book also includes a Revision Unit every three numbered units, a Grammar Reference and extra activities that generate somewhere within the book but are developed on the last pages.
Aside from the typical explanations and answers to exercises, the Teacher's book ( which only has the teacher version, no student version interleaved), , comes with a Text Bank (text not test) and with a Resource Bank should you need extra material. ( I doubt you'd ever need these ).
At the back of the book you'll find the CD and sometimes a DVD.
Remember that you will NOT be giving written quizzes, as that will be taken care of by the online program ( ELI ).
Please take some time to prepare your first two-three lessons with the materials you will find in the pdf.

What's the idea behind these pdf files?
That you not only get a sneak peek of what you'll be teaching, but also that you thoroughly review and look up the vocabulary you don't know, you need to be on the ball when you start teaching.
At a meeting we will soon have ( some day next week ) I expect to have your ideas as how to teach the first unit of each book. This will give us a head start on the first week of class.
