[b] Course Objectives: [/b] 1. Learn how to use the elements and principles of design to create interesting compositions. 2. Learn how to use Photoshop 7 to manipulate photographs and text. 3. Combine both of the above skills to create different products that a graphic designer would make. (Products may include a movie poster, a CD cover, a health awareness poster, and designing a logo for your own company.) [b] Syllabus [/b] [b] Elements and Principles of Design [/b] 1. Collage – how does layering work? What are visual cues? 2. Black & White Compositions – learning the elements and principles of design 3. Color theory – how can color work in your favor? [b] Photoshop & Digital Cameras [/b] 1. Puzzle – manipulating layers 2. Portraits – composition, cropping, photo retouching 3. Pop Art – selection tools, color fill 4. Hybrid animals – smudge and replicating tools 5. Surrealism – layering & composition – all tools 6. Name collage & working with text – text tools and adding text [b] Working as a Graphic Designer [/b] 1. Movie poster 2. Teen Health Poster 3. Company Logo and Identity You will be responsible for matting and displaying artwork, and also for entering at LEAST one piece of artwork in the Winter Art Show.
