SIMPLE PRESENT FOR HABITS AND ROUTINES

The present simple is used to talk about general truths, situations or events that are permantent in time, or do not easily change.

Example

I'm a Doctor ( something that's permanent )
I live at 245 Forward Street ( it doesn't easily change )
I don't speak chinese (doesn't easily change)

It can also be used to express ideas and events that are a habit or routine.

I walk to work

I usually get up at 7:00

Finally, the simple present is closely related to frecuency words like:

Generally, often, usually,seldom, never, always.

The present simple is rarely used for things that do not have a certain frequency. Never is also a frequency ( frequency = 0)
It is not about "things you do in this moment" but about "things you always or generally do"

When you want to talk about things that you do in the presenty or at this moment, use the Present Continuous.
