Cumulative Tardy Consequences

Definition Of Tardy

The student handbook provides a clear definition of tardy on page 38.

TARDY TO CLASS/SCHOOL – Not being in your seat or designated work area at the sound of the tardy tone.
 Penalty – Detention assigned by the teacher. Flagrant tardiness to school or class may result in out-of-school suspension with parent conference required before return.

Please note that being inside the classroom is not sufficient. Students should be seated and ready to work.

The Admin consequences will be as follows for cumulative tardies:

5 tardies= Parent Conference
10 tardies= 1 day suspension
15 tardies= 2 day suspension
20 tardies= 3 day suspension
25 tardies= 5 day suspension
Every increase of 5 tardies= 5 day suspension.

Other Pointers

1. Students may have two “free” tardies to first period only. Any tardy to 2nd, 3rd, or 4th periods immediately results in detention. (Student handbook, p. 10)
2. First period teachers will assign detentions after the second unexcused tardy for each semester. Other teachers may assign detention upon the first tardy of the school semester.
3. During third period, students should also be counted tardy returning from lunch.
4. A student with a note from a counselor, principal, social worker, teacher or who has been on legitimate school business (returning from field trip) is Tardy, Excused and does not receive a detention.
