Extra Credit
If you wish to make an assignment extra credit, simply enter EC into the points possible box. When you assign a student X points for the assignment, that student will receive X extra points in the class (or in the given category if you're using weighted assignment categories). Any student who did not receive points for the assignment will NOT be penalized in any way.
A common mistake teachers make with extra credit is to create a weighted assignment category for extra credit assignments. DO NOT MAKE AN ASSIGNMENT CATEGORY FOR EXTRA CREDIT IF YOU CHOSE TO WEIGHT YOUR ASSIGNMENT CATEGORIES. If all assignments in a weighted category are extra credit, then students will essentially have infinity percent in that category, which is probably not what you intended. If you chose to NOT weight your assignment categories, then it is perfectly fine to have an extra credit category. We also recommend that you not enter extra credit as the first assignment in a class, doing so will give all students infinity percent in that class and it may look odd when they log in.

Excused Assignment
If a student was absent or otherwise excused from turning in an assignment, you can enter E in the score box for that student. E stands for "Excused," meaning that Engrade will ignore that assignment when calculating that student's grade so the assignment does not effect his/her grade one way or another. If that student later turns in the assignment and you wish to give him/her a numeric score, you can easily do so and Engrade will re-calculate the student's grade accordingly.

If a student did not turn in an assignment and you wish to note that it is missing, simply enter M for that student's score on the assignment. An M will count as a zero for that assignment and will appear as "Missing" on the student reports. Also note that the Missing Assignment Report (listed below the gradebook) will only list the assignments in which students received an M.
