School Roster
Managing the School Roster

You can manage your school's roster by clicking the Students link in the left of your schools account. The most important thing to remember when managing your roster is that YOU AND ALL OF YOUR TEACHERS MUST ALWAYS USE THE SAME UNIQUE ID NUMBER FOR A GIVEN STUDENT. Using a different ID number for a given student will cause them to appear twice in your roster list and show the wrong class list when the student logs in. Using the same ID for two different students will cause that student to see the wrong class list when they log in.
At the beginning of each grading period, we recommend that you use Engrade's Roster CSV import tool to bulk import the roster for that grading period. The details of the CSV format are on the upload page.
Once a grading period has started, you may need to add a few students who transfer in occasionally. You can easily do this by clicking the Add Student link, which will allow you to add a single student to your roster.
Likewise, when a student transfers out of your school, you can easily drop them from the current grading period by hovering their mouse over the gear next to their name and selecting Drop

Strict Roster Mode

When enabled, Strict Roster Mode allows your teachers to ONLY add students to their class from your official school roster. Teachers will NOT be able to create new students at the school. This mode makes it easier for teachers to build their class rosters while preventing teachers from misentering students and accidentally creating erroneous students at the school.
When enabled, you as the admin MUST actively manage the school-wide roster. When a new student joins the school you must quickly add him/her to the roster so that teachers may add him/her to their classes.
By default, Strict Roster mode is NOT enabled in your account. To enable it, please contact Engrade support.
