What does passé composé mean?

Is the compound past, which means that it has two parts:

In French, the helping verb is a form of either the verb

Past Participle

To form the past participle of Regular verbs:

Regular –er-: drop –er-, add é. Parler=parlé
Regular –re-: drop –re-; add u. Vendre=vendu
Regular –ir-: drop –ir-; add i. Finir=fini
