PE with Mr. T

Welcome to the PEwithMrT Wiki Page. As of right now, this is a work in progress...
Welcome to the class wiki page. Hopefully, I'll be able to more all the information from my webpage over to here, that way everything can be in a centralized location. Check back to see what's new.

Why is PE important?

More than 23 million children and adolescents in the United States—nearly one in three young people—are either obese or overweight.

From Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF):
"If we don’t act to reverse the childhood obesity epidemic, we’re in danger of raising the first generation of American children who may live sicker and die younger than the generation before them. Preventing obesity during childhood is critical, because habits that last into adulthood frequently are formed during youth. Research shows that an obese older teenager has up to an 80 percent chance of becoming an obese adult."

The following is a statement by Risa Lavizzo-Mourey, M.D., M.B.A., RWJF president and CEO.
"Today, children drink and eat an estimated 35 percent to 50 percent of their daily calories during school hours. Given the central role school plays in our children’s lives, we must strive to make every school in the country a healthy school."
