Welcome to the Project #1!
General Instructions
Group Summary Project
Purpose: Practice skills in problem-solving, research, annotating, summary writing, creating test questions, note-taking and making presentations.
• With your group, decide on an issue or topic to research.
• Each group member will research and find an article related to one perspective on the issue or topic. Articles need to be 2-3 pages in length and must be approved by the instructor. Provide a link to the article in google docs. The article must be a complete piece of writing about the topic and not a part of a larger work.
• Each group will give a panel presentation during which each individual will discuss his or her article and take questions from the class. The group will also share their visual aid, their conclusions and lead a discussion or activity with the whole class.
Individually you will do the following:
o Locate an appropriate article on the topic (see notes above)
o Read and annotate the article
o Write a summary of the article (20-25% as long as original, in student’s own words, word processed)
o Develop a detailed concept map or web of the article that reflects the article’s organizational pattern
o Take the Project Test
With your group, you will do the following:
o Create a Visual Aid that shows the different perspectives on the topic and the information the group gathered.
o Write 5 test questions on the material your group will present to the class.
o Write a group conclusion. Group conclusions can be made a part of the visual aid (for example on PowerPoint slides in google docs) or word processed document in google docs. Include the group’s responses to the following:
• What have you learned about the topic?
• How does your group feel about it?
• What differences of opinion were expressed in your group?
o Make a panel presentation to the whole class (see notes above)
All of the above will be done using Google docs. You MUST create a document that is "shared" with all group members and me (anita122478@gmail.com). Similarly, if you decide to create a power point presentation using google docs, this presentation should be "shared" as a group. Your individual assignment will only be "shared" with me(anita122478@gmail.com).
