Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies

Dear Parents and Scholars,

Welcome to 6th Grade Social Studies. This year your child will be exploring Civilizations of
the Ancient World! It is important that you, both parents and students are aware of my expectations for this year’s class. Understanding the class expectations will allow for a productive, successful, and exciting year!

 COURSE DESCRIPTION
Listed below is a list of topics we will explore in class this school year.

 World Geography and Early Humans
 Early River Valley Civilizations (Mesopotamia, Egypt, India and China)
 The Rise of Great Empires (Greece and Rome)
 Civilizations of Middle and South America (Aztec, Inca, Maya)

 HABITS AND WORK EXPECTATIONS
These habits of work are expected of all students at our school. In order for students to progress academically and socially, we must al be willing to follow the work habits described below:

 Preparation: We know what we need, where it is, and what we have to do.
 Punctuality: We arrive on time, and turn in our work on time.
 Respect: We respect ourselves, our classmates, our teachers, and our learning environment at all times.
 Cooperation: We work with each other and help each other learn.
 Focus: We participate, listen, think critically, and ask questions.
 Revision: We reread our work, use feedback to revise, and ask other to review it.

This year is an opportunity to go beyond all of your expectations, to push yourself to absolutely shine in all that you do. I look forward to a very successful year!

Lined paper
2 Inch Binder with six dividers
Pocket Folder
