Turn-ins

Engrade's turn-ins feature allows students to upload their assignments directly to Engrade so teachers can quickly collect and grade assignments.

Enable Turn-Ins for Assignments

Any Engrade assignment can allow student turn-ins.

1. Select Classes on the top blue bar.

2. Click on the name of the class for which you would like to enable turn-ins for an assignment.

3. Select Turn-ins on the left sidebar.

4. On the Turn-ins page, you can view all of the assignments in your class, including: the assignment name, due date, status, turn-ins and options. The Status for an assignment will either be Open or Closed.
- Open indicates that an assignment has turn-ins enabled and the due date for turning in the assignment has not passed.
- Closed indicates that either the assignment has turn-ins enabled and the due date for turning in has passed or the assignment does not have turn-ins enabled.

5. Click the Open link in the "Options" column to the right of an assignment to enable turn-ins for that assignment.

6. You can click the Close link to the right of an assignment to disable turn-ins for that assignment.

Please note: You can also enable turn-ins for an assignment when creating a new assignment (on the New Assignment page) or editing an existing assignment (on the Edit Assignment page) by checking the Add this assignment to class Turn-ins checkbox.

Submit Turn-in as a Student

After you have enabled turn-ins for an assignment in your class, your students will be able to upload a file for the assignment in their student accounts.

1. The student must first log into his/her Engrade student account.

2. Select the name of the class in which s/he needs to submit a turn-in.

3. Select Turn-ins on the left sidebar.

4. Click Turn-in to the right of an assignment name.

5. On the Turn-In Submission page, select an existing file from the drop-down menu or click Choose File to upload a new file.

6. Click the Preview button to preview the file before submitting it.

7. On the Confirm Submission page, students can review the submission before sending it to the teacher by selecting View Submission.

8. When students are ready to turn-in the assignment, click the Submit Assignment button.

View/Grade Turned-in Assignments

Once a student has uploaded a file to a turn-in enabled assignment, you can view his/her submission.

1. Select Classes on the top blue bar.

2. Click on the name of the class for which you would like to view turn-ins.

3. Select Turn-ins on the left sidebar.

4. On the Turn-ins page, you will be able to see how many students in your class have turned in the assignment's with turn-ins enabled under the "Turn-Ins" column. Click on the name of the assignment to access student submitted files.

5. In the pop-up window, you can view your students’ names, assignment scores, comments and the option to view/download or delete each turned-in file. Click on the name of the uploaded file to the right of a student's name to view/download the file.

6. Once you have reviewed your students' submissions, you can assign the students’ numerical scores by directly clicking in the boxes in the "Score" column. These scores will automatically populate in the Gradebook for the selected assignment.

7. You may also add assignment comments by directly clicking in the boxes under the "Comment" column.

Please note: If your turn-ins do not appear to be working correctly, ensure you do not have any special characters (such as apostrophes, exclamation marks, etc.) in the titles of your turn-in enabled assignments, as these symbols can prevent turn-ins from functioning properly.
