Junior High Science Syllabus



Course Purpose:

In this course we will cover: First semester a brief history of science, the scientific method, how to analyze and interpret experiments, geology, fossils, and what is life. Second semester classification of life and the human body. Each class will have a brief lecture period, but our focus will be on hands on experiments and analyzing the data. There will be reading and written homework and well as in class tests. Students will need to bring their text books to each class as many of the experiments we will be doing are taken from the text.

Class Materials:

Text-Exploring Creation with General Science, 2nd edition, by Dr. Jay L. Wile. Binder, notebook paper and pencils.

Classroom Policies and Expectations

• Respect: Students are to respect the teacher and fellow students.
• Be Prepared: Come to class with homework completed and with your supplies. Students need to bring their textbooks to class.
• Teamwork: Students will be working together on labs and need to be respectful of fellow students and willing to share in the work.

Biographical Information:

Ruth Givens is a graduate of CSU, Sacramento with a multi subject teaching credential. She has taught hands on science in elementary home school enrichment programs and jr. high science to home schoolers. She has been home schooling for seven years. She lives in Roseville with her husband Jack and their two children, Joshua and Elizabeth.
