KINETIC V.S. POTENTIAL ENERGY

ENERGY- NOTES AND EXPLANATION

NOTES: THERE ARE TWO FORMS OF ENERGY.

1) KINETIC ENERGY- Kinetic energy is any energy in MOTION. If something is moving, KINETIC energy is being used to cause movement.
2) POTENTIAL ENERGY- When energy is STORED or NOT IN MOTION the energy being used is called POTENTIAL energy. Potential energy forces objects and people to remain still.

Example: If a person is running, KINETIC ENERGY is being used. When the person completely stops running, POTENTIAL ENERGY is being used. If a person is rocking in a rocking chair KINETIC ENERGY is being used. If the person falls asleep in the chair, POTENTIAL ENERGY is being used.
